Think about various organizations and the amount of data stored along with the variety of people who need to access the data. Databases can contact thousands if not millions of records that need to be viewed by different groups. Each group of people could need a slightly different view of the data.
Some examples to consider include:
University database that contains data on students, professors, and courses, what views would be useful for a professor, student, or academic counselor?
Online search engine database that contains data on web sites, meta data, and customers, what views might be useful to a customer wanting to perform searches, customer wanting to advertise their site, or employee of the company?
Hospital database that contains data on patients, doctors, medical procedures, and equipment, what views might be useful for a patient, nurse, hospital administrator, or doctor?
Publishing company database that contains data on authors, books, magazines, and employees, what views might be useful to a customer, editor, or author?
Find an organization type for which you’d like to set up data views. Next, share with the class at least three groups needing access the data and the views you propose for each of the groups.
