Critical Self Reflective Practice
Use the following four Critical Self Reflection Assessment Tools: Ecomap, Critical Events Timeline, Achievement Timeline, Loss Timeline, to examines various elements of your professional self, including self-understanding, integrity, self-efficacy, critical thinking, values around diversity, and one’s personal life stories and relationships. It is a very personal assessment but one that will enhance your self-awareness and professionalism and prepare you for working in the Social Service Work field. If you give yourself the time to reflect thoughtfully about these exercises, they will help you prepare for your journey in becoming a professional Social Service Worker.
Using the assessment tools in a four page narrative reflection,
a) What stood out for you in completing the Eco-map, Critical Events Timeline, Loss Timeline and Achievement Timeline? Reflect on a minimum of one new learning/awareness for each of the assessment tools.
b) What experiences from your life do you think invited you into wanting to become a Social Service Worker?
c) After completing the reflection or even from your own awareness, are there experiences in your life that you have not come to terms with, for example your tender spots and triggers. If so, what is your plan to address these experiences in a safe, purposeful way prior to entering Social Service Worker field?
d) In later years you may be working with clients with experiences that you can relate to Knowing this what can you do to prepare yourself to succeed and take care of yourself at the same time?
e) What do you hope to achieve as a Social Service Worker? Why? Be specific.
f) What concerns you about becoming a Social Service Worker? Why? Be Specific.
g) What positive learning has come from this self-exploration? Be specific.
