This week, I want you to get familiarize yourself with some of the core concepts of conflict analysis and resolution and learn a little bit about major ongoing global conflicts in the world. Please make the assigned readings and then go over the website of Crisis Watch or the website of Relief Web. You may conduct your research on ongoing conflicts from another source as well.
After your research, please pick one of the ongoing conflicts that you are interested in and try to answer the below questions:
– How do you describe the stage of this specific conflict? (refer to the escalation-deescalation diagram and discuss it)
– How do you differentiate the positions, interests and needs of the major conflict parties in this conflict?
– When you think about overall conflict trends in the world since World War II, how do you evaluate the trends of the world conflicts during the COVID 19 pandemic?
– When you think about the trends in ongoing conflicts in the world, do you think that the world is a better place to live in today than before as Pinker explains?
– Based on the conflict you picked to work on for this discussion assignment, what is the rank of the conflict country or countries in 2020 Global Peace Index (GPI) and what are some of the reasons for this ranking?
