You will need to research and prepare for a meeting with the site manager that will allow you to discuss, obtain go-ahead approval for, and then complete the network documentation. Your assessor will nominate a suitable person to act as the site manager for you to liaise with in this role play.

You are required to research suitable vendor’s routers and switches and associated network equipment to gather technical information before you contact the vendor in role play Task 2.1 (following). You should look at websites, technical articles, comparisons, vendor manuals and any other relevant material that will allow you to gather information on the products you intend to use. You can choose any vendor that supplies routers and switches in Australia. After you have researched, looked at comparisons, interpreted and analysed the technical information you should make a summarised list of all relevant specifications for submission.

Once you have gathered as much relevant information as you can in Task 2.1 (previous), you will now role play telephone contact with the specific vendors and service suppliers to clarify and obtain the specifications and determine the availability of the identified equipment. Ensure you familiarise yourself with the ROI – IT Procurement and Installation Policy (ROI_IT_Procurement_policy.pdf) to ensure you comply with organisational guidelines for product procurement and installation.

Now that you have completed the discussion with your supervisor (Part 1) and contacted the vendor (Part 2), you will have all the information you need to start planning for the job.
You will need to complete the network diagram, following in Task 3.1, and create an installation plan that includes checklists in Part 4 of this assessment.
Based on the information you have gathered from the discussion you had with your supervisor, you will need to finish the network diagram. Ensure that you have the current and complete set of documents and other information you require. If you do not have everything you will need to go back and obtain any outstanding items before you proceed with the planning process. Ensure you select the network elements required to be installed such that they meet all relevant technical requirements.

Based on your review of the network design documentation and the modifications you made from the discussions you had with the client and vendors, plan and list the tasks you would perform for the implementation of the WAN link between the main ROI office at Mascot and the branch at Parramatta which you and the other technicians can use as a checklist during the implementation.

Task 4.3. IP addressing scheme
Provide details of the appropriate IP addressing scheme that you have decided to for the WAN links, routers and switches for ROI.
Perform the required calculations to implement a VLSM IP addressing scheme with optimal route summarisation for the ROI network.

Task 4.7: Role play – Installation plan presentation
In this role play you will be presenting and explaining to your line manager (and your team) how you determined numerous components of the installation plan. This will take the form of an oral presentation. Your assessor will nominate a suitable person to act as your line manager, who you will be presenting to for this role play task.
There is a list of points (following below) which must be covered in this role play, so ensure you research, analyse and familiarise yourself with each of these. You should make use of information gathered in Part 2 where you contacted vendors and service suppliers to obtain the specifications of the identified equipment and determine their suitability.

Task 5.1: Build the Network and Configure Basic Device Setting Parameters

Task 5.2: Plan, prepare, install, configure and verify two WAN protocols
The PPP and HDLC are two common layer 2 WAN protocols. Consider what information you will need to gather to plan and prepare for these two WAN installations.
In this lab, you will install and configure PPP encapsulation on dedicated serial link between R1 and ISP. You will also need to install and configure HDLC protocol between ISP and R2. Verify the basic serial WAN configuration and the two WAN protocols after configuration.

Task 5.3: Configure and verify a site-to-site VPN
A secure communication link (VPN Tunnel) between different networks can be configured using IPSec VPN security. VPN Tunnels can be set up between routers to assure secure network traffic transmission. In this task, you are asked to configure site-to-site IPSec VPN Tunnel between R2 LAN and ISP.

Task 5.4: Configure and verify an ADSL connection
Ethernet and PPP can be combined by Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) to provide an authenticated method of assigning IP addresses on DSL links. In this lab, you will configure both the R2 and R3 to set up PPPoE between them.

Task 5.5: Configure and verify dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP)
A DHCP Server automatically assigns IP addresses, default gateways and other network parameters to its client. In this task, you are asked to configure a DHCP server on R1 to allocate IP addresses from network 10.0.10.0/24 with the first 9 IP addresses excluded. Configure PC-A as a DHCP client. Implement dynamic addressing services for hosts.

Task 5.6: Configure and verify network address translation (NAT)
Network Address Translation (NAT) can be used to assign a public address to host devices inside a private network. In this task, you are asked to configure the NAT service on R1 to assign a public address (210.155.200.226) to PC-A.

Task 5.9: Configure and verify virtual local area networks (VLANs)
Virtual local-area networks (VLANs) can separate a large layer 2 domain into multiple smaller domains to improve network performance and increase security level. In this task, you are asked to create VLANs and assign switch ports to VLAN according to the addressing table on S1 and S2.
