Learner- The population group that I had chosen for my project was young adults with depression with limited access to mental health care. The reason for my choice is with having more access to mental health care without being looked at or judged for what they are needing to talk to about. With the hope that the percentage of suicidal deaths due to being bullied in school and overwhelmed in their life will hopefully start to go down as they will see that there are other options and that these issues are temporary and that everything can and will be fixed and not by a permanent measure. As young adults who are aged 18- 25, if they don’t have any kids, they are usually not qualified for Medicaid with the state, or if they are making too much money and are over the border of the Medicaid limit. This is where the Affordable Care Act or ACA would come into play, however, most of the premiums with the ACA are outrageous as the out of pocket that has to be met first is ridiculous so most young adults won’t get health insurance at all which will leave them without any kind of medical coverage.
Back in the earlier days, the settlement house would have helped my type of group in the sense of the fact that the settlement house would offer childcare so that people who had kids and needed to work, their children could be watched, they had a community kitchen that everyone could cook food in to be able to eat as well as they had visiting nurses which meant that they had access to health care if they had needed it as well.
