Chamberlin Care Model

Based on the Chamberlin Care Model, implications of the presence of self-care would be when there is effective communication within a team. When team members feel comfortable adding their input regarding conflict resolution and decision-making, it becomes clear that the leader allowed them to do so. Leaders are aware of the importance of interpersonal relations and effective communications when they allow input from team members, which is why effective communication skills are a clear indication of the use of self-care. In contrast, the implications of the absence of self-care are quite the opposite: when team members aren’t comfortable enough to share their take on discussions. When team members refrain from talking and just listen to what their team leader has to say, it becomes clear that the leader doesn’t value interpersonal relations, which would be an implication of self-care. Interpersonal relations is such an important skill to have in leadership and having it is almost guaranteed for effective leadership.
Interpersonal relations are also an implication of effective self-leadership and self-care in my future MSN role. I plan to become a nurse educator, and with teaching students, the educators must make students feel comfortable with effectively communicating their concerns or just their input in discussions. This allows for a better education. Two recommendations that I would give to further cultivate self-care and self-leadership would be to self-reflect often and attempt to have a work-life balance. Having a work-life balance allows a nurse to not become consumed by their job and to avoid getting burnout by enjoying the wonders of life. This allows for a clear mind and gives nurses a better opportunity to be effective leaders. Ultimately, self-care is important, especially in the nursing field, and it should be valued in terms of being an effective leader.
