It is a daunting task to manage the many decisions that young people face as they grow
from adolescents to adults, particularly given the degree of uncertainty in the world. It has Good intro always been challenging to make educational and career decisions. However, high school students who enter into a Career Intervention Program receive help with the choices of pursuing a two or four-year degree or entering into a career. Career Interventions can help those who struggle with this critical decision.
Introduction to Target Population
Target Population
The target population of the Career Intervention Program proposal is high school seniors. These students do not want to enter into a career after high school. Instead, they are deciding between a two or four-year college or vocational school. High school students are changing, growing, and trying to figure out exactly who they are and what they want for their future. There is valuable information that counselors can use to help this population with their future lifechanging decisions.

High school seniors have many concerns. They need support, awareness, and skills to
navigate the next stage of their lives. Baker and Gerler (2008) suggest that there is value in offering “transition improvement” assistance to high school students as they move towards higher education, training, or jobs. These changes are a routine part of the growth of high school graduates (Niles & Harris-Bowlsbey, 2017). Many students do not know the difference between a two-year associate degree or a four-year bachelor’s degree. They do not know what a vocational program is and what it entails. As a counselor, I must inform high school students of the different options they have for post-secondary school so they can make the best decisions for their next steps in life.

Holland’s theory helps promote growth and understanding by providing clear connections theory is relevant

The theory examines the attributes of an individual to help determine his or her best job fit in the workplace. One of the critical principles of Holland’s theory is congruence. Congruence is “the degree of fit between an individual’s personality type and current or prospective work environment” (Niles & Harris-Bowlsbey, 2017, p. 56).
Congruence is one of the critical factors for using Holland’s theory in this intervention project. One of the program’s goals is to help high school seniors find post-secondary paths that align with who they are and whom they want to surround themselves with in the future. “People tend to be more fulfilled and perform best in settings that are congruent and adhere to their personality types. (Niles & Harris-Bowlsbey, 2017, p. 56).
