What is Experiential Learning?
Experiential learning is a method of educating through first-hand experiences, skills, and knowledge. Individuals acquire these experiences outside of the traditional academic classroom setting, and may include internships, studies abroad, field trips, field research, professional duties held, and service-learning projects. The Experiential Learning theory was developed by David A. Kolb and John Fry and was based on the idea that learning is a process whereby knowledge is created through a transformation of experiences. Experiential learning includes four main elements:
- Concrete experience
- Reflective observation
- Abstract conceptualization
- Active experimentation
When writing your essay, ensure you follow the below criteria:
- The project should be personally meaningful and have some significance to the student
- Reflect on and discuss the learning experience throughout the process of the assignment
- Ensure to involve you as a whole person, including your senses, personality, and emotions
