Film vs Text Essay
Choose a passage from Beowulf that is translated in the film (“Beowulf”) and compare it. Use close reading in order to analyze the passage in the text and contrast it with the way that is depicted in the film. Was the film successful in capturing that passage? If it wasn’t, how do you think it could’ve been done in a better way? Use specific phrases, word choices, kennings, or symbolism from the passage that accurately reflect what the film did or not accomplish. Did the film do a good job capturing the essence of the passage? Why or why not? What did the film do to capture that passage and effectively translate it from page to screen? Make sure that when you quote the passage, you do it in MLA format. The only two sources that you should have for this assignment are going to be your Norton book and the film. Your short essay should be 2-3 pages in length, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double spaced.
