During your work with families, you will find both similarities and uniqueness that appear between families and cultural groups and the organizations that work with them. For example, you may learn that some families perceive lying as a skill they promote because it may protect their children and keep them out of jail, or that hitting, when they are provoked, is a reaction that they celebrate because it demonstrates courage and pride.

There is a template to guide your work on this week’s assignment. The template is available in this week’s resources. While reading the resources this week, use the table to record similarities and uniqueness related to SEL skills that match the locations in each column. For instance, based on your reading, determine five or more most significant aspects of SEL that can be shared between school, home, and community resources. When comparing and contrasting the resources above, what information most needs to be shared between schools and these additional caregivers and stakeholders?

Next, create another table comparing and contrasting three SEL programs; you may use the same programs you reviewed in Week 7 of SEL-5200. Pay particular attention to how well the SEL programs would integrate with OST programs.

Once the information is completed in the table, your assignment is to compose an analysis of your findings. Please be sure to include these observations:

Note which programs have qualities or components built in that will make the best match for the significant aspects of SEL you have identified in your location.
In what ways might one program be more effective in your location than another program?
How well are the core components of SEL able to be shared and taught across locations?
In what ways do these programs agree with the research you read? Cite 3-4 sources.
What drawbacks are there among programs with regard to any of the locations?
What questions do you still have unanswered about their usefulness? What is your plan for finding answers?
Length: 2 graphic organizers (charts), and a 2 to 3-page analysis with title and reference pages

References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources.

The completed assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the lesson by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.
