This assignment is designed to give you experience applying the skills you have been working on thus far.
You will be asked to analyze data and write up the results in response to specific questions. You may ask
questions via email with your tutors and myself, but please do not post to the discussion forum. If we are
able to answer them, we will, and if they are clarifications that all students should have, they will be posted
on the Assignment page or discussion board on iLearn.
You are expected to complete all aspects of this assignment individually. Any violations of this will be
viewed in violation of the University Code of Conduct and Academic Integrity policies and will be put forward
for disciplinary action.
This assignment is worth 10% of your mark. Submission time for assignments will be counted as the time the
assessment was received, not the time the uploading began. Late penalties will be applied to assignments
that are received after the due time, at the rate of 10% mark per day beginning at 9:01 am on the due date.
This assignment must be submitted online via iLearn/Turnitin. Assignments submitted by post or emailed to

Background
Narcissism in often a characteristic attributed to individuals who are excessively self-absorbed, selfish and
egoistical, self-enhancing, arrogant and shameless. Yet, those who study this distinguish vulnerable
(hypersensitive/covert) narcissism from grandiose (classic egomaniac) narcissism by focusing on how the
self-absorption is expressed differently among these two types. For vulnerable narcissists, we see a strong
comorbidity with neuroticism, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem, but we often see the opposite
with regard to grandiose forms of narcissism. Most relevant here, research has shown that grandiose
narcissism is commonly found to be characteristic of leadership from the boardroom to the cabinet room

Recently, a team of political and personality psychologists at an unnamed university in Washington D.C.
have been investigating grandiose narcissism in leaders, and are interested in what other patterns of
behavior might predict it. (Where do they come up with these ideas?) Specifically, they wished to extend
their set of predictors to look at correlated behaviors such as manipulativeness, entitlement, and
antisociality. They gathered data from 100 local “leaders” (who shall remain nameless) and these data are
in your dataset, Cheeto.dta.

This team has asked you to help them determine which of these are the best predictors of grandiose
narcissism in leaders. Your variables are:
• narc: Grandiose Narcissism (Combover subscale)
• manip: Manipulativeness (Puppet Inventory)
• entitle: Entitlement (Gimme Questionnaire)
• antisoc: Antisociality (Conscience-less-ness Survey)
Part 1: You will need to conduct three, individual,simple regression analyses, one for each predictor variable.
Be sure to follow the 8 steps involved in the analysis for each regression, and wherever necessary, be sure
to report relevant statistics and values in APA format.
1. Write a brief summary of the univariate results for the dependent variable, ‘narc’.

Part 2: First, you will need to conduct a multiple regression analysis with all three independent variables
included as predictors. You do not need to conduct analyses to test assumptions for this three-predictor
model. Next, and based on your response to question 7, drop the worst predictor and re-run the multiple
regression analysis with two predictors. Also, conduct the appropriate analyses to test assumptions for the
two-predictor model.
8. Write a brief summary of the analyses to test the assumptions for the two-predictor model.

9. Write a brief summary of the results of the regression analyses conducted for the two and three
predictor models that includes a discussion of your model reduction. Thus, you will need to decide if the
two-predictor model is better than the three-predictor model, and explain and justify your choice using
the results produced in the output of your analyses. Be sure to include all relevant statistics and values
used for all points of comparison. (10 points).
