Assignment task
Produce a 10,000-word (+/-10%) research project based on: identifying a relevant research problem;
formulating clear aims; collecting relevant data; analysing and interpreting data; and writing a research
report that adopts the required format.

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your
achievement of the following module learning outcomes:
LO 1 Critically review and analyse literature pertaining to the topic area chosen
LO 2 Critically evaluate a range of research methods and apply appropriate research techniques for the
collection and analysis of information
LO 3 Critically analyse findings in relation to theories and concepts and present a report with a set of
evaluative conclusions and recommendations based on the findings of the research

How your work will be assessed
Your work will be assessed on the extent to which it demonstrates your achievement of the stated learning
outcomes for this assignment (see above) and against other key criteria as defined by your programme
team and placed in the Handbook.
A proportion of your marks will also depend upon your use of academic referencing conventions.
This assignment will be marked according to the grading descriptors for Level 6.
Your research project should demonstrate that you are able to:

• Design and conduct an original research investigation on a clearly defined topic of your choice
• Identify key concepts
• Clarify the problem and focus on a specific issue
• Provide a clear overall aim (or aims) and objectives for the research
• Review and analyse existing literature on the topic
• Formulate and test a hypothesis, or frame a research question
• Make use of appropriate research tools to collect and analyse data
• Identify ethical issues in relation to data collection and how these have been dealt with
• Evaluate and collate the information obtained
• Discuss your findings in detail and draw appropriate conclusions
• Communicate your findings in an appropriate written format
• Suggest ideas for further research on the particular issue
