Academic Dismissal Appeal
here are some points you can add to the letter
-I am an international student and nursing is all I have ever wanted to do with my life. I don’t see anything beyond being an emergency room nurse. There is no backup plan for me. As an international student, there are not many opportunities to grow as a nurse back home. Being here is more than a dream come true, it’s my life.
-I came to WCU because I was wait-listed and as an international student I am not allowed to be wait-listed. So WCU was a heaven-sent opportunity.
– I have had an interesting journey during my academic career. I have learned a lot about myself since I have started nursing core.
-I have been able to successfully get through all of my courses until recently. There was a past incident where I was flagged for academic dishonesty. During the mental health term, I experienced internet issues for three weeks. During my final, I had to switch to my hotspot. Due to my phone being considered another screen which is not allowed I was given a 0 and had to retake the class. Since those are the rules I take full accountability. I was able to finish with an A.
-This semester was new and extremely difficult for me because this term we took OB and Peds together. The course load was so difficult I stopped studying for OB and strictly paid special attention to peds after failing my first test. This is not something that’s the norm for me so I was discouraged for a while during the term. It seems as if none of my efforts allowed me to be successful and when I finally found what works for me, unfortunately, it was at the end of the course. In order to pass, I needed to score a level 2 on the proctor and get an 88 on the final. I was able to get a level 2 score on the proctor but I got an 82 on the final exam which left me with a 74.41 critical score and an 80 final grade. While I was not able to pass I am still proud of myself for doing well towards the end. This term taught me that change is absolutely necessary. I am a creature of habit/routine and I don’t like to change anything. I learned to change my student style because I noticed that I was having a hard time getting out of the “med surge” mindset. As a nurse, we must be able to adapt and cope well with change. Change will happen at some point in all of our careers and that should be no reason to give up. Even though I did not pass Peds I am grateful that I was able to learn myself in a way that I didn’t think was possible.
-I know if given the opportunity, I will continue to be successful in the program. I know that I am a good student and have what it takes to become an amazing ER nurse.
