Rhetoric was a powerful tool in ancient cultures. By preparing and presenting a speech you will be able to experience an aspect of an ancient culture in your everyday life. For your speech, you will select two ancient cultures to compare and make hypotheses about the causes for differences and similarities between them. In addition, you will discuss both the positive and negative impacts of these cultures on modern societies.

You will be evaluated on the following knowledge and skills within the speech:
 Identify the similarities between two ancient cultures
 Identify the differences between two ancient cultures
 Hypothesize the reasons for the similarities between these two cultures
 Hypothesize the reasons for the differences between these two cultures
 Evaluate how these two ancient cultures have impacted modern society
 Create illustrations (graphs/charts) to support the concepts delivered in the speech
 Produce an outline of the speech

PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS

 Deliver a speech that:
o Identifies two different ancient cultures
o Discusses at least one significant difference and one significant similarity between the two cultures (significant differences or similarities might include political, religious, economic, architectural, or social aspects)
o Discusses at least one reason why the two cultures are similar
o Discusses at least one reason why the two cultures are different
o Provides examples that show how the two ancient cultures have influenced modern society (at least one example for each culture)
