Presentation Analysis
Below are two discussion answers posted by other classmates. Watch the videos attached with each discussion so you understand what is being discussed. A reply is to be made to each discussion (1 & 2) if you were responding back to them. The reply must be thorough and expand the discussion by providing additional examples or connections.
Post something substantial (something more than being summed up as “I agree.”) Consider talking about other parts of the speech where you saw qualities that the poster noted, or talk about additional qualities that you know of that would make this person successful.
Discussion 1
For this assignment, I chose Seth Godin’s TEDTalk speech on February 2003. Godin, a world-renowned marketing and leadership author, inspires his audience how to help spread their information to the right intended people. He explains how the message is packaged, delivered, and received to ensure it generates clients and achieves the intended success. He advises marketers to be remarkable, sell to people who listen to them and figure out those who care to listen.
The three things that make Godin’s speech a great one is Language, Face-Face conversation, and the use of visual aids. Throughout the speech, Godin’s language is clear, and he uses words that are easy to understand. A good case is when he why marketers should sell to people who listen (11:32). Godin also delivers his speech face-to-face with his audience, whereby his tone and confidence win the audience’s attention. Besides, he uses several audio-visuals, such as a picture of a cow (6:27) and cars, to help his audience understand the message.
Well, Godin provides several examples to support his ideas. For instance, he talks about the invention of bread and how long it took before people started buying sliced bread. Godin says that no one bought sliced bread for the first 15 years (0:30). He also uses the example of DVD fashion in America, the fashion industry, and individuals like Steve Jobs.
From Godin’s presentation, we can become great speakers if we use language that the audience can easily understand. This helps them grasp every idea without struggle, increasing their concentration. We can also use the face-to-face channel to deliver our message, which helps us physically interact with the audience and understand how they feel as the speech progresses. We can also become better speakers by using visual aids to help the audience understand and relate to the concept discussed.
Discussion 2

This TED Talk is by Nilofer Merchant who is a corporate director. She talks about the idea of taking meetings outside the conference room. Her main points include that our health does not have to come second to obligations. There are ways to bring together work conversations and increasing our activity.
Nilofer was a great speaker because she would point to the audience, which helped keep them engaged. At the beginning when discussing points about others, she would try to tie in the audience. If she was addressing ‘everyone’ she brought the audience in. Another great aspect that she did, was use her own body to convey messages. During the discussion about constant sitting, she pointed to her own-self to showcase what she was talking about. She also was good at her pacing. The speech was not completed quickly or too slow. She also included light humor in her dialogue.
I think she did a great job conveying her message. She explained her background on the topic and how she was introduced to this concept. Throughout she gave reasoning as to why it is important to combine aspects of our lives for our well-being. She including percentages of health issues that arise due to constant sitting, versus adding walking into our lives. Using these qualities in a speech can help one engage the audience, keep them entertained, and inform them about an important topic. By engaging and informing an audience, a speaker will be able to hold the attention of those listening which can be beneficial especially if the topic revolves around the health of others.
