This image is on our Canvas home page and is of a man on an airplane who obviously is a supporter of former President Trump (the Make America Great Again hat tell us that).  We might infer from his hat that he opposes illegal immigration, is in favor of a border wall with Mexico, and believes in tariffs against countries like China, all positions taken by President Trump.

  2. How would the prime of noticing the man’s hat influence both people who like Donald Trump and people who don’t like Trump to form an evaluation of this man on the plane?
  3. How would classical conditioning affect our attitudes toward him? In your answer, make sure that you indicate what the CS, UCS, CR, and UCR are.
  4. How would the concept of a person schema influence what other beliefs we have about this man?
  5. How would cultural norms be affecting his behavior in this situation?

  1. How would the false consensus effect influence the extent to which protestors think about how others might feel about the Black Lives Matter movement?
  2. If people feel strongly about the George Floyd murder but have never attended such a rally, how might those people deal with the dissonance they feel?

  2. Using research about what we know about how people resist persuasion, what are two ways that people could use to resist this message?
  3. In a lot of ways, this is a message that is designed to generate fear. Using what we know about the effectiveness of messages that promote fear, why is this either an effective message or not an effective message? Remember to address all three criteria for the effectiveness of a fear-producing message in your response.
  4. How would the theory of planned behavior explain why some people might take action to stop climate change after watching this message? Remember to apply the theory to this example (don’t just say what the theory is).
