Problem Statement
The problem to be addressed in this proposed study is that attrition of university students can
result in university dropouts or termination of courses, and the extension of course.
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this qualitative case study is to explore perceptions of the high attrition of
students in their first year at four-year colleges and universities and the role of co-curricular and
extra-curricular programmatic offerings in retention.
