Diploma In Accounting Program – Strategic Management (BUSI 493)
Background: The CEO of Cineplex Inc. has hired you as a management
consultant to perform a SWOT analysis in order to provide an outside
perspective on the Company’s current business situation.
Required: Prepare a report with appendices for the CEO that succinctly outlines
the details of your SWOT analysis and summarizes your findings. In your report
you need to include the following three (3) items:
1) External Environment Analysis (Opportunities and Threats)
• General Environment Analysis
• Competitor Analysis
2) Internal Organization Analysis (Strengths and Weaknesses)
• Value Chain Analysis
• Business / Corporate Level Strategy Analysis
• Financial Analysis
3) Summary of Analysis
• Identify the Company’s 3 most important strengths and 3 weaknesses
• Identify the External Environment’s 3 most important opportunities
and 3 threats
• Identify the Company’s core strategic issue

Assignment Structure: Structure your Individual Assignment to include the
following three (3) sections:
1) Report: The report includes conclusions of your research and analysis.
Conclusions should be well organized, clearly stated and linked tightly to
your research and analysis. Writing should be concise, persuasive, easy
to understand and free of errors. The report structure should include:
• Cover page – title of report, student name and student number
• Introduction – provide brief overview of the report (3 to 5 sentences)
• Body of the report – includes clearly labelled sections: External
Analysis, Internal Analysis, Summary of Analysis (with descriptive
headings)
• Conclusion – provide brief summary of the report (3 to 5 sentences)
• Format: 4 to 6 pages (not including cover page, appendices,
references), single spaced, 11-point Arial font, 2 cm margins, page
numbers, third person voice
2) Appendices: The appendices include details of your research and
analysis. This may include student created content or relevant content
sourced in your secondary research. The appendices are a place to
include detail that may not fit well into the report but provides useful
supporting or background detail. This content may include, but not be
limited to:
• Spreadsheets detailing financial analysis
• Graphics, exhibits, charts, diagrams, timelines
• Relevant additional details related to your analysis
• Format: 3 to 5 pages, 2 cm margins, page numbers
3) References: The report should be based on your own analysis
(conclusions are your own opinion based on your own analysis and
secondary research). Students are encouraged to perform additional
research using high quality sources in the business media and other
credible sources. Secondary sources must be cited (Chicago Style End
Notes) and included in the References section.

Marking Criteria: Your Individual Assignment will be evaluated based on the
quality of your conclusions, research, analysis and on overall professionalism.
Your conclusions must be well organized, clear, and consistent with your
analysis. The presentation of the report and appendices must be of a
professional standard: writing should be concise, persuasive, and easy to
understand. The report must be free of grammatical and spelling errors. Cite
secondary sources. MARKS will be allocated as follows:

Summary of Analysis (20% Weight)

Professionalism (10% Weight)
o Appendices / Formatting / Spelling & Grammar / Quality of
Research / Citation of Sources
