Trying to focus on positivity instead of letting my negative thoughts effect my future.

Essay #1
Please read the following Essay #1 assignment doc carefully, refer back to it every time you sit down to work on your paper to make sure you’re on track, and contact me if you have any questions.

Assignment
First, you’ll read and annotate the articles “Fixed vs. Growth (Links to an external site.): The Two Basic Mindsets That Shape Our Lives,” “6 Common Causes of Procrastination (Links to an external site.),” and “The Toxic Effects of Negative Self- (Links to an external site.)Talk.” These articles all present ideas about mindsets and how they can affect people.

As you read these articles, think about and take notes on anything you can relate to, anything that resonates with you, that makes you think of experiences you’ve had.

Then, write an essay that presents a situation or event in your life that can be related to the mindset ideas in the articles (you may use 1 article, 2 articles, or all 3 articles—it’s your choice).

Your essay will be thesis-based, meaning there will be a single, clear, simple, idea (your thesis) that is the focus of the whole paper. You will present this focused “argument” to the reader at the end of the introduction paragraph, and then you will prove it with all of your Main Point (body) paragraph ideas. Main Points will include short cited passages from the article(s) that relate to your situation/event.

For example, I might write a paper about how the worst teaching time I ever had was the semester where I let my procrastination get me behind in the first few weeks, and then I ended up playing catch-up for the rest of the semester. Each of my Main Points would then show (with Evidence and personal examples) and explain/prove (with Analysis) what each step of this situation looked like, how it made me feel, and what I learned from the experience.

Remember that the lesson you learn (the Analysis) is more important, and should take up more of the paper, than the details of what happened (the story/ Evidence).

Assignment requirements
5-6 pages (anywhere on page 5)
Plus, a separate Works Cited page that lists which of the 3 articles you cited in your paper. You may use 1 or 2 or all 3 of the articles. You may not use any other sources because your proof needs to be based on your Analysis.
Remember to present the ethos for your outside sources in your in-text citations.
Standard MLA 9th edition formatting and citations
Remember to submit your work in a Canvas-friendly PDF, .DOC, .DOCX, or .RTF file only. Work submitted Canvas in .PAGES or submitted as a Google invite or link will not be accepted.
