- Identify your field of study, describe the current (controversial within the last 12-18 months) and unresolved issue in your field, and list your refined research question for that issue (the most recent version).

- Identify a primary stakeholder and explain why he, she, or it qualifies as a stakeholder. Use the “Stakeholder Decision Matrix” to identify a high influence/high importance stakeholder or high influence/low importance. NOTE: High influence is a requirement because it meets the decision-making authority requirement. CITE THE SOURCE OF YOUR CLAIMS.
- Describe the vested interest (decision-making authority) of your stakeholder(s) in the issue you chose. Explain any current events or trends that may be currently affecting your stakeholder’s interests. CITE THE SOURCE OF YOUR CLAIMS.
- What position does the stakeholder have on the issue you chose? Note that stakeholders do not always spell out their positions. You may need to consult newspaper articles, trade publication articles, and journal articles to collect the necessary information about your stakeholder’s position. CITE THE SOURCE OF YOUR CLAIMS.
- Explain why you disagree with your stakeholder’s position and what evidence you would use to change the stakeholder’s position. CITE THE SOURCE OF YOUR CLAIMS.
