Short essay: What are the key distinctions between technological determinism and “medium theory”?  How do theorists in each camp view social change?  Which camp do you gravitate toward, and why?

The Social and Political Issues I care about

Over the years, the United States has been marred by numerous political and social issues such as abortion, gun control, obesity, poverty, and immigration, in which a viable solution is yet to be reached. The social and political elements I care about are immigration and the health and equality of the minority populace. It is because these matters have a significant impact on the stability and economic development of the country and, when not handled effectively, can lead to conflict among citizens.

How Media Coverage Affect my Politics

The media’s primary purpose is to provide the public with truthful information concerning the happenings within the country and abroad. However, the media’s autonomy is always under threat, with most governments enacting laws and policies that tend to manipulate how they conduct their practices. It has resulted in some form of regulation in which the media’s information is scrutinized before reaching the public. This form of control has led to the eruption of fake news, which has greatly affected my perception of political issues. Other media outlets are biased in their coverage and usually negatively comment about a particular subject or product. As such, it is challenging to trust some of the news outlets and the information they offer. I recently watched the Social Dilemma on Netflix- if you have time I would make the time. It is crazy how we are all not seeing the same information. 

How Media Engagement Affected my Relationships

The development of media has a significant impact on its users’ ideology and relationship by influencing how they perceive things and objects. My use of digital media like Facebook has greatly affected my engagement behaviors since it has enabled me to become an open-minded person that can accommodate divergent opinions, I am almost to the point of deleting it- if I didn’t need it for my group in one program for school I would. I feel as though as soon as it is over I will be deleting it. However, it isn’t all bad, the Internet allows a person to meet people from other parts of the world and develop relationships. Through media, I learned about diverse cultures and religions, which has helped improve my understanding of human interaction.
