Milestone 3- Case Study proposal
Hello, everyone! Welcome to Module Eight. Keep that consulting hat on, because this week you will be submitting Milestone Three – your proposal! This is the ‘professional best foot forward’ milestone that formally recommends well-developed solutions to organizational issues. Following the Final Project Document and Milestone Three Rubric, you will synthesize all recommendations related to motivation, leadership, and consultation to improve productivity at Sullivan Soap Company, and also include recommendations related to ethics, diversity, and collaboration (Note: Each of these six sections is worth 15 points, so do not leave anything out; use appropriate section headers). Give me a concise, 6-10 page formal consulting proposal that Grace Sullivan at Sullivan Soaps would want to read and act upon. Don’t forget that the CEO is your primary audience. Also, don’t forget to appropriately cite scholarly research in every relevant section to support each recommendation! I’ve been surprised by how few recommendations I’ve seen related to the review, development, and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures to ensure equity and fairness – if you have not included this before, please consider this as you pull together Milestone Three.
Before you get started on this milestone, though, you need to read this week’s overview, as well as one article on how recommendations for change should be made very carefully to ensure effectiveness. Also, review the ‘All About Consulting’ website for lots of resources related to both hiring consultants and being a consultant. Then, in our discussion forum, get creative! Reflect on any variables that you may not have considered or addressed (or not known) in previous assignments that could impact the formal recommendations you are about to make. If you want to make those variables a reality (as long as they don’t change the facts presented in the case study), you can do that with my full permission.
For example, what if during interviews, you begin to suspect that Jim has an illness that is causing him to be particularly disagreeable. He doesn’t feel well, and one trip to a doctor, followed by medication, could alter his behavior drastically. This is rather common. It is unrealistic to think that our work behaviors aren’t impacted by the way we feel, or what’s going on in our personal lives. Although you may not dive into employees’ personal lives by asking pointed personal questions, some things may become apparent the more you get to know people, and it is very difficult to ignore those things completely when your professional reputation is on the line via the recommendations you make. What about this – what if Jim tells you that his wife has been having an affair with Adam – let’s say it’s common knowledge – the entire family knows about it, as do all other employees, and Jim is horribly embarrassed and bitter about it (naturally). That would impact his attitude toward his wife and everyone else he works with dramatically. I realize this approach may seem unorthodox, and many consultants try to remove the ‘personal’ equation entirely, but these are the types of realistic scenarios you can discover, without really trying to, while you are exploring as a consultant within a company. Get creative in the discussion forum – think outside the box – whether or not you choose to make these optional variables a reality in your final project. Have fun with this!
