You need to do a project and to provide a maspterplan for a site. The site is located in Manchester and is close to the University of Manchester (accessible by walking or public transport). For working on the project, you need to visit the site and its surrounding area/neighbourhood. You are highly recommended to visit the site in a group (even if you work on the individual part of the project). The project is a continuous piece of work. It includes a series of components that you should present throughout the semester. The project has three sequential steps and each step has its own specific components:  Step 1: Context analysis (including strategic location and analyses on neighbourhood scale);  Step 2: Site specific analysis (including analyses on site scale);  Step3: Conceptual design (including best practice, concepts, and briefs). The project components are linked with lectures, workshops, walking tour and technical sessions. A successful completion of this course strongly depends on your attendance in all sessions, working and studying outside the contact sessions, and completing tasks for each week. At the first step, you work in a group. You need to individually complete the second and third steps of the project (and individually revise your work you did in step 1, based on the feedback you receive on your group-work (Assignment I)). Your work on different steps of the project will be delivered into assignments, including Assignment I and Assignment II.

Assignment II is an individual work. You must present all of your analyses (including context analyses and site specific analyses) and the first step of design, including a ‘best practice’ related to your ideas, two concepts (with identifying the preferred concept and justifying it), and design brief. For this assignment, you must provide (at least) minimum required components (revised and developed based on feedback you have received in Assignment I and Surgery/Tutorial sessions). The content, clarity, quality of analyses and design, and presentation are important: it is very important to have a very well-structured and well developed story, critical analyses with clear messages on each analysis, and to include high quality analytical graphics (readable, clean, clear, well-presented, and include a range of graphic (analytical maps, images, and annotations/text related to analyses)).
