researched paper on book review ill attach a rubric for the paper as well as a pdf version of the books
Annotated Bibliography
After identifying potential sources for your Researched Argument, compile a list of three (3) sources into an Annotated Bibliography. These must be pieces of literary criticism/scholarship, articles from academic journals that advocate a scholar’s interpretation of a literary work or of a particular aspect of a literary work (or of multiple works or a particular literary author’s works). Look to the CSU library databases (JSTOR, MLA International Bibliography, and Literary Reference Center are good ones to use for literary research) or Google Scholar. (Books and eBooks are great resources, too! The library does have these!)
Construct a complete Works Cited entry for each source, list the citations in alphabetical order, and compose a concise annotation (approximately 100-150 words) for each source beneath its citation. Each annotation should include a summary of the source and explain how you will use the source for your essay (to support or inform your argument using specific information from the source, offer a counterclaim, provide background information, etc. You can even identify particular quotes or sections of the article you want to discuss).
You may use sources other than those you annotate in the final paper, and you may choose not to use some of the sources you annotate in the final paper. Do not write annotations for your primary source texts – the works you’re analyzing.
*No blogs or Wikipedia, though you may consult these sources in order to find a list of their references, which often contain scholarly sources.
*NO Shmoop, Cliff Notes, Sparknotes, Grade Saver, eNotes, Course Hero, LitCharts, etc.
*Your annotated bibliography does not appear at the end of your research paper – you need to provide a Works Cited page including primary and secondary sources for the paper itself.
Purpose: The annotated bibliography allows you to explore the advantages and potential issues that each source presents. It also helps you to envision what you will add to the existing conversation on your topic and shows you what you learn from your sources (so that you don’t inadvertently plagiarize) and how you can use your sources to bolster your own ideas. When it comes time to write your final paper, you may use information from your bibliography to do so.
Prewriting: Take notes on your sources, their main points and evidence, as you read. This will help you to form the annotated bib and keep you from inadvertently plagiarizing later – make sure you note which info comes from which source.
Audience: You of the future (the you who begins writing the formal essay) and me (you may use “I” and “me” for this assignment but not for the research paper itself)
Formatting: Format according to MLA 9 standards. You can find a sample annotation here: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/03/ (The document at the bottom of the page shows you what a finished annotation should look like. Pay close attention to indentations and amount of lines skipped.)
