Clinical Decision Support Systems
Welcome to Unit 7: Clinical Decision Support Systems! Posting to this forum is required and must be completed as part of the Conference Forum component of this course.
In the forum, you can choose to describe your experience with implementation of a new clinical decision support system in your practice setting. These questions may help you to develop your posting: What were the processes used to introduce the tool? How were nurses and other healthcare providers trained and supported in its use? What in your opinion was the impact on client care? Remember to be cognizant of maintaining confidentially when developing the content of your posting. Do not include any details, which might identify the organization, individual healthcare providers, or clients in your content.
An alternate approach for this posting is to share the action plan you have developed to support you in integrating new clinical decision support tools into your practice. Describe your actions and/or build upon plans shared previously in the forum by other students.

With the implementation of Connectcare, I have witnessed nurses having a negative view on the idea of it. Some have even mentioned retiring as it will be “too complicated to use.” “Technology is being implemented as a tool to prevent healthcare errors” and I feel too often we don’t acknowledge this (Piscotty et al., 2015). Currently our site uses a combination of electronic and paper documentation. We use Meditech for triage and entering lab and diagnostic orders, and paper documentation for everything else. I look forward to using connect care in our site as I believe it will illuminate tedious tasks and create synchronized care. I believe the biggest benefit will be a decreased occurrence in transcription errors. Even though, connect care may be a major learning curve for most AHS employees, I am positive the transition will be beneficial overall for our healthcare system.
