Overview
The Research Paper contains 2 sections and is a demonstration of your ability to integrate and describe grammatical concpets, explain that information with many grammatical examples, and then conclude with a summary and implications for your future work, all relating to details of English grammar.
Instructions
For Section 1, you will choose a published essay, article, poem, or short story to analyze its grammar. Since this is a published piece, you will likey focus on mostly positive usage. Follow current MLA formatting with Times New Roman or Arial 12-point font and type, double-spaced, at least 8 pages of paragraphs (no maximum limit), which should be a minimum of 2200 words. The Works Cited page does not count toward the length requirement. You will incorporate at least 5 scholarly sources, most of which will be utilized in Section 2 of the paper. The chosen published piece and the textbook can count toward the 5 total sources.

The Research Paper Assignment should be organized as follows:
Introduction paragraph with brief summary of the chosen piece followed by a thesis that directs readers to both sections of the paper
Section 1: Several paragraphs describing the grammar (mostly positive usage) of the chosen piece with specific examples from the published selection
Section 2: Several paragraphs explaining common grammar issues in today’s everyday spoken & written English (not referring to the chosen piece)
Conclusion paragraph
Works Cited
Both sections should contain copiously illustrated grammar examples.

Tips & Suggestions:
-Fully address both sections
-Organize the paper as indicated above: Intro, Section 1, Section 2, and Conclusion
-Provide many illustrative grammar examples (most should be positive usage since this is a published piece); there ought to be copious grammar examples, and each should be explained in detail, using grammar terms as presented in your textbook
-Do not let the examples “speak for themselves”; expand upon your examples
-Remember to focus on grammar descriptions (not literary elements or poetic devices)
-Cite detailed examples with correct MLA intext parentheses. Do not copy/paste the full or large portions of the chosen text into your paper; refer to it using examples throughout Section 1
-Only Section 1 should address the grammar of chosen piece. Transition completely away from the chosen piece in Section 2 to address common grammar issues in today’s everyday spoken & written English
-Use correct current MLA citations or proper formatting of sources in the paper and on the Works Cited.
