HTM 402 – Literature Review
This assignment is worth 20% of total class grade.
Due date: February 24 (Word document submitted in the D2L Folder). Late papers within 24 hours will be penalized 20% of total maximum grade. Late papers beyond 24 hours will receive 0 (zero) points.
Following the annotated bibliography assignment, where you identified 10 academic articles and annotated them, the literature review takes you one step further in reading, understanding, and integrating your readings.
One objective is to read the academic literature, understand concepts, identify threads of thoughts and opinions, find studies that make recommendations and that allow us to better grasp marketing issues.
For this literature review, you can choose one of the following topics:
The increased concern for sustainability and companies’ branding and communication strategies
Developing Canadian residential schools as “dark tourism” attractions
The impact of covid-19 restrictions on customers’ perceptions of quality service
Regenerative tourism and new product development
Recovery from a crisis and marketing strategies
Green marketing in the hotel sector
Customer service quality as a competitive advantage
Events as marketing tools for destinations
The impact of technology (AI, VR, Robots, etc.) on marketing strategies
You can also choose any marketing-related topic, as long as it is connected to hospitality and tourism.
Your paper should have a title page, a title, and should follow the following format (you should, of course, have subsections, depending on your topic):
Introduction (Introduce the issue. What is the topic?)
Literature review (read this Library tutorial and watch this video)
Conclusion
List of references (References should be APA style; they should all be academic references)
Format of the paper and references should be APA style (except for 1.5 spacing).
Papers should be from 2000 to 2,500 words long, not including the list of references.
The minimum number of academic references for the literature review should be 20.
Attention to plagiarism! May I remind you that you may not copy and paste the contents of a work for another course or for another assignment! I will use Turnitin to check for plagiarism. There may be some similarities if you use “quotes” and citations, but the similarity rate should be below 15% (without counting the list of references).
Evaluation Rubrics
Presentation / language accuracy (spelling and grammar) / APA style (for in text references) – 4 pts
Introduction (clarity / presentation and framing of the topic / problem) – 4 points
Literature review (integrating the literature in a discussion, synthesizing articles, structuring the review with subheadings) – 8 points
Reference list (academic references and APA style) – 4 points
