Annotated Bibliography Counseling Project

You will be writing a paper on a chosen mental health issue and therapeutic strategy for addressing that issue.  This final project will consist of a 2 part assignment.

Part 1 – Annotated Bibliography

First this week you will submit an annotated bibliography of a minimum of 5 scholarly sources.  Two of these sources must be related to the mental health issue that will be addressed in your mock counseling session.  The other three sources must be related to the therapeutic strategy that you will be applying in the mock session.

With an annotated bibliography, you are exploring the literature and developing a list of possible sources that could be applicable to your research topic. However, it is more than just a reference list of citations. Each citation is followed by a single paragraph of about 120-150 words where you summarize the key points as well as discuss the relevance and quality of the sources you have selected. This compilation of summary, evaluation, and reflection is called the annotation.

The main steps you need to take to complete an annotated bibliography:

Reference the source using APA style

Summarize: What is the main thesis? What are the main points given to support the thesis?

Evaluate: Did you find this source useful, reliable, and relevant? Why or Why not? Are the key arguments adequately supported?

Reflect: Was this source helpful to you? How has it shaped your own perspective?

Format to follow:

Reference the source in APA format.

Follow the reference with a single block paragraph of not more than 120-150 words comprising your annotation (summary, evaluation, and reflection). Word limit is important so make sure you revise carefully and remove unnecessary details prior to submission.

The whole block should be double-spaced and indented an additional two spaces

Part 2 – Counseling Session Overview

Submit 2 substantial paragraphs (200+ words each) covering the focus on your mock counseling session.

In the first paragraph describe your client and the mental health issue that they are dealing with.

In the second paragraph discuss the therapeutic strategy that you will apply to this client. Make sure to discuss why you believe this is the best strategy as well as providing an overview of the different techniques you will use in the mock counseling session.
