SMS Manual: Part 1
For the next three modules, you will be developing a Safety Management System (SMS) working manual. The project is broken down into three parts. The project begins now, in Module 7 (Part I), continues through Module 8 (Part II), and will conclude with your final product in Module 9 (Part III). The SMS will demonstrate how to explore and dive into creating a manual. In case there is ever a need, you’ll have a basic understanding of how to work and revise the manuals at your organization.
The manual will be assembled in one document so that at the end of Module 9, the entire manual should be completed. The completed manual will contain no more than 12-15 pages with only pertinent information to the SMS. (Cover page and reference pages do not count).

Explore the Hunt library, the Internet, or the FAA website for material related to SMS. Use the assembled background information to accomplish the goal of writing/building an SMS manual that will effectively implement and manage risk throughout your corporation. It is a big responsibility as you are the managing authority for the safety performance of the operations conducted in your organization.
Safety Management Systems (SMSs) are mandated for all aviation service providers by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 6. The certified carrier must have an SMS that meets the requirements of 14CFR Part 5 and is acceptable to the Administrator (FAA) by August 01, 2020.
