Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency are very critical subject in any plant design especially in oil industry. Heat exchanger network are one of the areas where a considerable amount of energy can be recovered. In this report, plants streams data was given into two sets, and the objective was to develop a feasible heat exchanger network design with a maximum energy recovery using all gained knowing from energy system unit as well as previously learned chemical engineering knowledge. The task is divided into three sections by three members. Group member 1 was required to developed Heat exchanger network at 10°C for both sets, Group member 2 was required to develop Heat exchanger network at 20°C for both sets, and group member 3 was required to develop an automated Heat exchanger network at 20°C for both sets. Finally, all three members has followed the same methodology explained in the report..

⦁ Automated Design

⦁ MER HEN Design at ΔTmin of 10°C
In this section, the development of the Design at ΔTmin of 10°C will be demonstrated. Thus will be in to parts; which are SET 1 with only two utilities “hot-oil and cooling water” and SET 2 with three utilities “ hot-oil, cooling water, and MP steam”. The objective is to develop a feasible heat exchanger network design with a maximum energy recovery for both sets. Then these to heat exchanger design will be analyzed and compared.
First, giving data was used as in input into GAMS to gather basic information that will be helpful during developing the design. Figure 3.1 is the composite cure that was generated from GAMS shows hot and cold streams curves and the pinch point at ΔTmin of 10°C which was 140°C and 130 °C for hot and cold stream respectively.
