The US Census
The argument that I will be addressing is women going into business for themselves because of being paid less. Being a woman business owner currently is extremely rewarding. But the pay the women receive from working with a fortune 500 company is less than what men receive. My major is business administration with a concentration in accounting. This topic is related to me because I am business owner and I plan to work for myself after I get my degree. I work right now for a big company and my pay is less than the men I work alongside. The US Census Bureau’s reported that woman who work fulltime and year-round make 82.3 cents for every dollar men made in 2019. Women are paid 17.7 percent less than men.
My three key points that I plan to use is women working harder and smarter, race playing a role, and the pay gap in general. After reading a few articles it is stated that women cannot take larger workloads or longer hours due to family commitment. That might have been true years ago. But in the way of the world today men are single dads just like moms and play the same roles as women. Also, race plays a big part in the way women get paid. As a black woman I am the lowest on the pay chart. Not sure why race even plays a role in pay anyway.
The audience that I was be addressing is my peers. We are the next generation that has the answer to changing the view on the topic. They will see how pay is important to everyone and it should be equal all the way around. Women are also the audience since this is about us in general.
The main goal is to address the topic of women being paid less than men so they start their own companies. If women were paid equal, more would stay with companies they have been with more than 10 years. Bringing light on the topic might get more women to speak up and the government might take more steps to make sure women get paid what they are worth. Their pay would be based on performance level and education background.

The supporting resources would help show how women being paid less drives them to open their own business. It shows the pay gap in relation to men and women. And how companies do not want to be known as paying their employee’s different pay. Also, it will show how race plays a part of the wage war also.
The evidence that I have provided will support my argument because it shows the wage gap. It also shows that this problem has been going on for some time now. By arguing these points, I am hoping to bring light to the subject of women being paid less.
