In the text by King and Auriffelle (2020) titled “Environmental Sociology: From Analysis to Action” the authors state “We find that, as students become aware of environmental and social inequalities and injustices, many naturally want to use their sociological knowledge to change things. Some find it frustrating that while sociology reveals many grave societal problems, it does not tell them what to do about those problems” (15). With this in mind directly address King and Auriffelle’s comments about how to use sociological knowledge to change things.

Begin your essay by first discussing how sociology and anthropology understands “environment” by reviewing concepts and theoretical perspectives (see the introduction to King and Auriffelle’s book)What are the strengths that these approaches offer to an understanding of environmental problems? Next consider then how we might best use our knowledge to enact positive social change? So, for example did you find inspiration in any of the readings, films, class discussions, or your original research? (I provided film information below) Which one(s) did you appreciate? Or put another way – which article (I provide article below) do you think best exemplifies an anthropological or sociological approach and/or offers a direction for change that you can appreciate. (You need to summarize at least one article here) Are you frustrated as the authors suggest? If so briefly discuss these frustrations. Do you have any ideas of your own?
