You must use at least one quote; this is called Sound On Tape (SOT). See page 283 of your textbook for details on SOT formatting.
You do not have to record the finished story. However, you will need to properly format the quote into your finished scriipt.
Finally, write an anchor lead-in to your piece.
For example:
(Anchor) Well, there’s a new sheriff in town. WNYC’s Leo Sacks reports that he’ll be deputized today.
Some notes:
1) The story must include all the information you need to inform (or entertain) the listener.
2) You’ll need 90 seconds of copy.
3) Part of the challenge of writing for broadcast is writing to the precise amount of time that you have been allotted.
4) Attribution should always begin your sentences (“Alderman Harry Smith says…”)
5) Words or names that are difficult to pronounce must be written phonetically — in brace brackets — every time they appear. For example: “New Jersey Governor Rick Maylrohm [MAIL ram] resigned this morning amid allegations that he…”
6) Follow the AP style for grammar.
