Bystander intervention in emergencies: Diffusion of responsibility (Darley & Latané, 1968)

For this individual assignment, you must take the classic psychological research study listed below, break it down and analyze the different parts of the study to persuasively argue your opinion on whether or not the study is ethical. You must use the concepts from Chapter 3 of your textbook to help make your case.

• Bystander intervention in emergencies: Diffusion of responsibility (Darley & Latané, 1968)

You must prepare a 2-page handout which meets the following requirements:

​- includes your name, class information, and creative title at the top
– includes a brief summary of the research study you are analyzing
– defines important vocabulary terms depicted in the study (e.g., bystander intervention)
– has an ethical analysis listing (in detail) the things done ethically vs. the things not done ethically in the study
– you must fully apply at least 8 different ethics concepts, total, from Chapter 3 of your textbook
​- make sure that it is clear how each of the concepts apply to the study – your
points should be clear, thorough, and accurate
– you must have at least 2 things listed in one of the sections (i.e., one of the sections – ethical or unethical – cannot be blank)
– has one or two bolded sentences stating your judgement on whether the study is/is not ethical
​- does not cite or reference someone else’s summary or analysis of this study
– gives an APA-style reference for the Darley & Latané study and the textbook
– has 1-inch margins, uses single-spacing and Times New Roman font no bigger than 12-point
– is easy to read; uses subheadings, bolded and italicized terms, bullet points, etc. to organize information
– does not go under the 2-page minimum length (you can over, but try to keep it to no more than 3 pages, not counting the reference page)
– is not written as an essay; uses the handout format
– paraphrases the information from the study and textbook

This is meant to be a reflection of your thought process. You must defend your position with well-developed arguments. I do not want to know what other people think. I want to know what you think about the research ethics (or lack thereof) of the Darley & Latané study. You can receive a good grade even if I disagree with your final judgement.

This individual assignment is due by 11:59PM on Tuesday, November 16th. It is worth 100 points. You will submit your completed handout through the submission link already active on Canvas.
