Week 6 Assignment – Planning the Instructional Strategies for a Learning Theory
Now that you have explored some popular adult learning theories, you have hopefully gained a better understanding about the ultimate goal for these theories: to create an effective learning experience for the adult learner. In this assignment, you’ll put this goal to practice, by designing a high-level lesson plan that outlines instructional strategies that are supported by one of these theories. To this end, you will continue to build off of the topic and adult learning theory that you selected the Week 4 assignment.
To start, think about how you would approach teaching an actual lesson about the topic or area of expertise that you used in the Week 4 assignment. As with that assignment, assume that you will be teaching adult learners who know little to nothing about the subject. What are some of the specific things that you would want someone to know about? What’s the content that you would want to include? Write down some of these ideas before moving into the lesson plan; it will make your work easier.
Next, you will use the provided Lesson Plan Template [DOCX] to create a lesson plan. You will need to do the following for this to be a successful lesson plan:
Propose the actual strategies that you would use to teach students in a learning experience about your selected topic/area of expertise. The template will guide you on how to approach each strategy based on the stage of the lesson plan. Note that you should not be answering each guiding question in the template, by itself. Rather, you should use those questions to help you write a cohesive descriiption of your strategies, in paragraph form, for each stage of the lesson. These strategies should be 2–3 paragraphs in length, providing detail about what the strategies are and how you would go about enacting them.
Justify the strategies you create in each stage of the lesson plan by discussing how they align to the adult learning theory that you selected in the Week 4 Assignment. Be specific about how your strategies support the aspects of the adult learning theory. Each descriiption can be 1–2 paragraphs in length, and you should use sources here to support your descriiption of the alignment.
Use three sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. Cite each source listed on your source slide at least one time within your assignment. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the library or review library guides.
