Mental Issues: The influence that streamers/gamers cultivate on their audience

The main idea or topic to talk about is about MENTAL HEALTH. How streamers/gamers are able to influence their audience and how the audience can change a streamer/gamer’s perspective mentally.

*Here is what I proposed to my professor*
This topic is one that I have chosen due to personal interest and relevance. Over the years, I believe that gaming has grown and that the community of people watching others play video games has populated over those years. There are many top streamers like Ninja, xQc, Valkyrae, Mizkif, Disguised Toast, etc., who have influenced their streamers whether in a good way or bad way. These streamers can go live on Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, or any other streaming platform. Their ‘chat’ or the community who will comment as they are live will either be toxic or not. This is very interesting to me, and I believe that overall, this should be studied as to how this culture is affecting the world and how it has grown. This also leads to the streamer to gain so much success that they are able to cultivate their own merchandise and to increase the prices as more of their supplies become more demanding. Although there are positive outcomes of the world of gaming, because the streamers themselves can get in touch with other streamers and form a bond to be able to play video games together. Furthermore, the ‘chat’ or the community of strangers can communicate with one another and form their own personal bonds. This is the ability that video games have, they can connect us with other from around the world and influence us to see the world differently. Video games are also changing the way we socialize as well. The newest type of gaming is VR which is ‘virtual reality’, and it helps people who are struggling with mental health issues or are disabled. One of my favorite streamers is Valkyrae, who is part of a gaming organization known as 100 Thieves. This organization has many other streamers/gamers within it, and they go up against other gaming organizations. Video gaming is like a sport or even compares to the Olympics. However, streamers do not just limit their views to gaming only. They will open up new doors or ideas for their community to enjoy. They will blog, simply have a one hour live stream of questions and answer segments, perform art with their viewers, play board games in person with other streamers, and so on.

The tide turns when we begin to notice that the ‘chat’ or community influences the streamer change themselves. The streamer will perform an act for their community just to get a donation or sub through the application they are streaming from. Disguised Toast is a member from the OTV gaming organization and is the most realist streamer I’ve seen. He will not let anyone control him or let them get controlled by him. He accepts his fans mail but will not treat any of them as a friend. He has already stated that he is simply there to provide entertainment. This can also lead to stress as well for the streamers and they may need their mental space. I’ve seen some streamers quit for a week or leave for months like Jacksepticeye. The gaming community was making ‘memes’ out of his father’s death which caused him to leave the community for a while. He recently joined again and is slowly coming back to streaming. I believe this is a topic to research about because it is growing, and it is important to see the influence coming from both sides of the spectrum.

I WILL MAINLY TALK ABOUT Corpse Husband, Ludwig, and Jacksepticeye. Who have had mental issues/disorders with their audience or have trouble with “parasocial relationships”
