Week 11 Discussion Board Posting (on Week 10 presentations—due by 11:59 PM on Sunday, November 7):  This assignment is the tenth of 14 weekly original topical essays (based on questions pertaining to the previous week’s video presentations) that I will be using, in lieu of exams, to assess your mastery of course material.  Each of your original essays (worth up to 3 points toward your final grade) should be around 400 words (please include a word count at the end of your posting), and should use appropriately cited concepts, theories, facts, etc., from the assigned videos and/or from peer-reviewed journals or reputable internet sources (NOT Wikipedia).  When posting, type or paste directly into the Messages box so that your readers will not have to open attached files (use attachments only for supplementary materials such as photos).  In this essay, you are to discuss the following:
(1)  Questions from Fernandez presentation:  Name two or three key obstacles in the implementation pathway from scientific research findings to evidence-based public health programming.  How might intervention mapping help in overcoming these challenges to effective and sustainable program planning?
(2)  Questions from Resnicow presentation:  Name five health behaviors for which African American youth exhibit lower risk than other groups.  What are some implications of always using white as the denominator, i.e., the standard, for public health guidelines and interventions?  Consider for example smoking prevention programs based on white age of onset, white brands smoked, and smoking intensity.  Give a few examples where race-specific guidelines might be warranted.
Grading Criteria (points—original posts):
0 = No posting.
1 = Simplistic; short; no insight; no use of course materials; poor writing.
2 = Shows some thought; little insight; some minimal use of course materials; adequate writing.
3 = Interesting; thoughtful; good insight; advanced use of course materials (more than minimal); good writing.
POINT DEDUCTIONS:  One-half point per week (up to a maximum 2 points) for late submission.

Week 11 Response to a Classmate (re Week 10 presentations—also due by 11:59 PM on Sunday, November 7):  Each week you are to also respond to one classmate’s post with a substantive reply of at least 100 words (again, please include a word count) which will count for 1 point toward your course grade.

0.5 = Simplistic posting; short; no insight; repetition of what others write; no relevance to course materials; poor writing.
1 = Interesting; thoughtful; good insight; relevant to course materials; adequate to good writing.
