A savvy manager or analyst must also compare the financials of a variety of companies, particularly those within the same industry. In addition to an overall review of the annual report, the ratio analysis is one useful tool that allows us to compare organizations. Managers and analysts also use ratio analyses to predict business failure and also provide suggestions to improve organizational operations. There are limitations to ratio analyses, but they can help business professionals reveal a company’s state of profitability, liquidity, solvency, and productivity.

you will complete a case study consisting of the following primary
activities. You will first focus on the selection of a publicly traded corporation and reviewing the
following: Company history, structure, industry and operations. You will further evaluate their
financial reports and performance. Then, after selecting another publicly traded corporation
within the same industry, you will calculate key financial ratios for the newly selected firm and
your original organization, in order to complete a comparison analysis, while evaluating and
contrasting their performance.

Select a publicly traded company whose annual financial reports can be found on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (opens in new window).
Visit the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (opens in new window) (SEC.gov).
Obtain the annual financial reports (10K) for your company, locating the most recent reporting data.
Select Filings, Search for Company Filings, select Full Text Search, and when referring to the category, the selection should include “annual”.
Develop a synopsis that includes:
An introduction:
Purpose of the analysis.
Background:
The company’s industry, history, and location.
Descriiption of the managerial and organizational structure
Whether it is international or domestic only, and its major commerce (i.e. products, manufacturing, services, retail, etc.).
A discussion of the industry in which the corporation operates and current environmental factors of influence (i.e. economic, legislative, political, technological, global, consumer demographic, etc.)
A conclusion summarizing the key points of the paper.
