Individual Assignment

This is a paper on my prior work experience viewed through frameworks discussed in class, I have included links to a few relevant frameworks that must be used in this paper below along with some other sources from the list at the bottom of this page. As to the experience, feel free to do as you choose within this context: the experience was at a London based tech startup within the past 3 years prior to starting my MBA and the negative experience and my ambiguity as to how to handle it were part of the reasoning for undergoing the MBA programme. This is a personal essay so please keep the tone narrative so long as its structured through the lens of the frameworks and supported with articles from the list below. **I have uploaded the beginning of this essay in the file titled IA, please work from this**

Instructions:

The individual assignment requires you to dissect a negative or particularly challenging situation or decision from your professional history. This could be a situation involving a difficult professional relationship, challenging team, or poor decision. Using the frameworks we have discussed (see above), reflecting on your motivations and reasons for why you behaved the way you did, you will discuss ways you could have operated differently to result in a better outcome, and why they would have done so.

One of the fundamental aspects of this course, and MBA program, is that we are data-driven (integrated with appropriate and sophisticated human judgement). Thus, to complete this coursework properly, you need to find three empirical (meaning data were collected and reported) academic articles that helps explain an aspect of this topic to you a new way, or can help you unpack something that baffles you about it.

These can be articles referred to in class (such as the above frameworks), but I am also interested in learning new things (so going beyond those articles is most welcome). You should concisely overview the findings of each paper, and then explain what they have taught you and how you can apply that learning to your own professional life.

The coursework should be between 3-5 pages long, 12-point font, 1.5 spaced paragraphs. Very highly graded papers can easily be 3 pages, if they avoid “fluff”. I’d rather read compelling shorter papers than longer papers with only as much substance as a shorter one. This does not mean that short papers avoid “fluff”. A 3 page paper with “fluff” will simple read as superficial.
