Business Essay
This is the first of three essays that will focus on three specific industries. You will identify a company within this industry to be
the subject of that essay. (Non- Renewable / Renewable / Nuclear).
Once you have selected a company in the assigned industry, you will then conduct research to identify a recent article (within
the past 6 months) about that company. The article must be obtained from one of the following business-related sources: The
Wall Street Journal /The Economist/Financial Times/ The New York Time — and/or as discussed in the first class.
Each essay will need to focus on one of the five business environmental factors discussed in Chapter One.
• Social
• Technological
• Economic and legal
• Competitive
• Global
The essay should discuss how this environmental factor is impacting the industry and the company you selected. Do not use any
of these five environmental factors more than once for these three assignments.

Background
Each BTE will:
• Summarize the articles findings and choose two major points of which to write.
• Describe how the environmental factor selected, aligns with the article.
• Reflect critically on how the content of the article is impacting the company’s operations today.
• Present your view on how this will impact on the company’s operations into the future.
• Seek to avoid referencing historical information.
