You will choose an issue (controversial or otherwise) of your choosing to discuss. This will be a 2,500 word essay. Feel free to tackle one of these or think up your own and have it approved by me. Be sure your topic is something you can speculate on, analyze, and then prove your opinion through research; just a true fact will not do. Your sources must come from the LRC databases, Psychology Today, or be approved by me if they are from sources outside of those two locations. You will need to find multiple negative/positive aspects (at least 10) related to your topic. Sources should be no older than 10 to 12 years. Once you have done that, you will have to present the arguments in favor of and against the topic. In order to be impartial, you will have to know and discuss both sides of the argument; however, it may be apparent, by the time you have finished, where you stand on the issue. We will also look at some opposing viewpoint issues from the LRC databases (SIRS / Issues & Controversies). When choosing your topic, you should choose something that you find interesting. You also must be able to find a great deal of information on the topic. If you realize that you can’t find much information on the topic, drop that topic immediately and move on to another topic.

When writing the essay, each body paragraph must include at least two pieces of evidence that work to support the topic sentence and overall thesis of the essay.

1. The title is Annotated Bibliography, not Works Cited. Where your cursor is centered at the top of your page, type Annotated Bibliography. Then, tap the enter key on your keyboard once. Click on the left align button at the top of the window. Your cursor is now back on the left margin of the document on the second line. Highlight all of the citations from your works cited page and copy them over into this new document that is your annotated bibliography and your are ready to begin the second main difference from the works cited page.

2. Annotated bibliographies have explanation paragraphs that show what the source is about and how you will use it in your essay. Click at the end of your first citation and then tap the enter key to create a blank line of space between those two citations. Click on the Format tab at the top of the window and select Paragraph from that drop down menu. In the section for Indentation, click on the Special drop down menu and select None. This selection will turn off the handing indentation so that you can write normal paragraphs. Remember, citations must have the handing indentation to be correct, but paragraphs and other writing in the essay will never have the handing indentation, so you will have to turn it off for those parts. You will repeat this process of creating a line of space to type and turning off the handing indentation for every single source.

The paragraph for each source should explain three things about that source:

1. The first sentence should tell what the thesis is for the entire source, what the whole point is that the writer is making.

2. The next 2-3 sentences should tell important facts or opinions from the source that you will use in your essay to make your point. Notice, that to be able to write this section, you will be required to read the source. You can’t BS this part. What it allows you to do though, is to organize your thoughts so that when you start your outline you already know what evidence from each source you plain to use to make your points.

3. The last 3-4 sentences should tell how this evidence from your source supports your essay.

Answer each of those three questions for all of your source paragraphs. Make sure you save your work after writing each paragraph so that you do not lose any work. When you have written the last paragraph, save your work so that you have saved your completed document.

Make sure that you include the correct number of required sources. Make sure that your sources are academic scholarly sources or that they have been approved by your instructor.
