1. Why are 1759-1760 and 1867 important dates in Canadian history? What occurred in
those years? Describe the events very briefly.
2. At the time of the Conquest, New France was more than 150 years old, which is older
than modern Canada. It had a French population of about 85.000 when Britain took it
over and made it a part of the British Empire. All things considered, was that a large
number? Explain. Can you draw any conclusions related to that number? Comment.

3. Justin Trudeau’s family (on his father’s side) has been in Canada for eleven generations.
Comment. How long has your family been in Canada? Comment.
4. Why did concern and discontent grow among the First Nations of the Ohio area
between 1760 and 1763?

ideas associated with paternalism and religion encourage or discourage revolution?
Explain.
5. Why is the Royal Proclamation (the Proclamation of 1763) an important document in
both American and Indigenous history?
6. Write a brief historical sketch of Chief Pontiac. Is he a heroic figure?
7. What is a civil war? The American War of Independence was at least partly a civil war.
Show that this statement is true.
8. How did French Canadians react to the American invasion of Quebec in 1775?
