Different stages of Child Development

Throughout the course you’ve learned about the different stages of Child Development and the factors that impact healthy development. For this assignment you will pick a movie or TV show that illustrates factors that impact Child Development. For example, in the movie, “Inside Out”, the main character Riley is 11 years old and forced to relocate with her family. Throughout the movie we see Riley’s “emotions”, Joy, Sadness, Anger, and Disgust. We see Riley’s “train of thought”, the “islands” that represent important factors in her development, and her imaginary friend. What does all of that “mean” from a Child Development perspective? That’s what you will explore in this assignment.

Step 1: Pick the movie or TV show you want to write about.

Step 2: Begin your paper by providing a summary of the movie or show you picked. Remember, your instructor may not know what it is, so be sure to explain the characters (names, ages, family dynamics, etc.) and theme of the show/movie. In other words, if you were describing it to someone who has never seen it, what would you say? You may want to include YouTube clips to help support your summary and/or the points you’re making throughout your paper. Cognitive Development (Piaget) and Intelligence
Cognitive Development (Information Processing) and Language
Emotional Development and Moral Development

Step 3: Explain how the show/movie relates to Child Development. Be sure to state what stage of development the child/ren is/are in and provide a summary of that stage (what to expect developmentally). Next, describe what’s going on in the child’s life – what issues are present? How is the child affected (socially, physically, emotionally, and mentally) by those issues? You must provide factual evidence from the lesson material to support your thoughts and ideas.

Step 4: What Child Development Theory from the lesson material best relates to the show/movie and why? For this part, you must state the theory, summarize it, and explain how it applies to the show/movie.

Step 5: Provide a conclusion for your paper. Wrap up your paper by summarizing what you learned and explaining how understanding Child Development can make parents, teachers, caregivers, etc. more effective.

Your paper should be a minimum of 2 pages in APA format. You must provide factual information and at least 2 academic sources (YouTube doesn’t count). Do NOT copy the information from your sources you must summarize the information and provide citations in the body of your presentation/pamphlet in APA format
