The objective of this assignment is to develop an instrument for your consumer research, collect data, and analyze the data to answer your research question. This assignment is designed for you to get some hands-on experience with market research. During this process, please feel free to schedule meetings with the instructor whenever you have problems or questions. Here is the recommended outline for this assignment: 1. Research Method–“What did you do?”-Based on your identified customer gap and research question, choose a research program(interview or questionnaire survey). Please refer to Ch.5 for details for the two major research programs. -Explain the procedure of the data collection. (e.g. who did you survey, how and when did you administer the survey, how did you conduct the interview, etc.)-Present your research instrument(e.g., if you conducted a survey, you need to present your questionnaire; if you conducted interviews, you need to present the list of interview questions). Either way, you need 2-3 questions. Survey questions are usually closed-ended, such as “yes/no, “to what extent”, and “how often” questions. Interview questions are rather open-ended, such as “how” and “why” questions. Please include some demographic questions (e.g. age, gender) in your research instrument.2. Data Analysis–“What did you find?”-First, describe your participants. How large is your sample size (i.e. how many responses did you collect)? For qualitative interviews, you should have at least 5 respondents. For quantitative questionnaire survey, you should have at least 30 respondents. What is the demographic profile of your respondents(e.g. gender, age)? People of different demographic groups may have different expectations/perceptions for services. Describing the participants will help your audience understand the context of your data analysis.-Present a summary of the research results. For quantitative surveys, please use appropriate and readable tables/graphs to present your results (more about the numbers) and then interpret the quantitative results with your own words. For qualitative interviews, please list the major themes emerging from the qualitative responses. For example, when asked about impressions of Little Szechuan, the most common things people talk about are “spicy food,” “waitingagn line,” and “friendly service.”
