You must write a 2 page report for each event attended. Each report must contain the following four parts:
1. Introduce your report by identifying the event and four themes the event covered. (1 – 2 paragraphs) Themes should be identified as presented in the readings and instructor presentations: for example, if the event deals with the racialization process, then identify themes related to the process (prejudice, discrimination, segregation); if the community organizes then identify themes as covered in the course and readings (formation and control of labor forces, union organizing, mutualistas, significance of corridos, resistance, accommodation, assimilation). The themes must be related to concepts and themes introduced in the course presentations and readings: again, for example: racialization, migration/immigration, formation and control of labor force, movements for change, labor organizing, acute disillusionment and response, assimilation, accommodation, resistance. Think about why the event is being reviewed for this course on the Chicano experience. View the event in this context. This isn’t an event about your fascination with the subject matter. It is an event that connects the experience to the course.
2. Write a paragraph for each theme and explain how it was covered in the event. (4 – 5 paragraphs)
3. Explain how the event’s themes relate to the course materials (textbooks, readings, presentations) and concepts. (2 paragraphs)
4. Conclude with a summary assessment of the event by commenting on how the event helped you understand the people’s experiences and whether it achieved an appreciation of the historical record. (1 – 2 paragraphs)
