A supply chain describes different activities, beginning with the acquisition of raw materials
for the purpose of making a product up to the point when the product is delivered as a
finished good or service to the final customer. Along the way in this process, certain risks
and threats are experienced hence they have to be keenly identified and mitigated so as to
keep the supply chain effective and thereby preventing any abnormalities in the business
which may result in a negative impact on profitability.
Risks within the supply chain may be of different kinds, some are unpredictable due to their
natural occurrences while most are predictable. Common risk include business risk in the
case where there are new changes in the business structure or business processes, planning
and control risks that are as a result of inadequate assessment and failure in the
management. Lack of alternative solution to counter failed plans and proper measures to
mitigate certain predictable risks is a threat to an efficient supply chain. Similarly,
manufacturing risks, physical plant risk which majorly focus on the area security as well as
environmental risks are among other threats to the whole supply chain model.
Inability to respond quickly to most of these risks could lead to adverse effect on sales and
revenue, loss of customers to competitors and of more importance, damaged business
reputation. Hence, gathering and processing information becomes a critical aspect of risk
detection and management since the more data that a business has, the better position it is
in being able to anticipate the probable risks that are ahead and find a way of dealing with
such a risks amicably. Moreover, it gives one a better understanding of his/her business
supply chain process.

an entity has first-hand information on all that is taking place in the business setup so that
