Pressures on employees at work may lead to stress and prolonged psychiatric illness such as depression (and) under the private law of negligence an employer may be liable to pay compensation for psychiatric injury caused by stress arising from employment.

In the light of this statement explain how the law has developed to provide a remedy, identify any obstacles to employees suffering from stress related illness and bringing a claim and highlight any differences between the law dealing with this north and south of the border.
