The term prosody can be used to describe rhythm, stress and intonation of speech. This style is developed by the use of various aspects of language for instance grammar, focus, vocabulary, emphasis, contrast, sarcasm and irony.
It is a style widely used by poets in their literature works. In Robert Browning”s poem, Porphyria”s Lover, this style is largely employed in order to develop acutely the speaker”s madness in the development of murder in the poem. The following explication will discuss the use of prosody in the poem to bring out the speaker”s madness.

The poem”s title clearly indicates that the speaker is mentally challenged.
This title is derived from a biochemical condition that links a person to madness.( how so ? explain this is confusing ?)

The title in itself is a means of setting the reader into knowing that the actions in the poem are not entirely sane. Throughout the poem, the speaker is keen to reiterate the poem”s title by subsequently narrating how he strangled Porphyria painlessly.

The speaker first presents himself as Porphyria”s puppet.(please chabge this term )

He acts half dead for Porphyria to hold him and assure him that she loved her deep inside her. ( what does deep inside mer means he here?)what do you mean?

The line, �I listened with a heart fit to break� shows that the speaker”s heart was about to break due to his love for Porphyria.
Through the poem, the speaker turns Porphyria into his puppet,again repetition

�Porphyria worshipped me; surprise�. With this realization, the speaker decides to show her his love for her; he strangles her �painlessly”. Strangling a person”s neck using a string is very painful but to the speaker, he knew that Porphyria felt no pain in her- does not make any sense

After an act of murder, a person is expected to be guilty of their actions. The speaker portrays a different kind of personality when he says that after he knew she was dead, he laughed his blue eyes without a stain of guilt (Laughed the blue eyes without a stain, as I untightened next the tress�). He then held her convinced that he had done what she wished for. you are using present with past tense in one sentence that is not proper grammer – use only present tense

His madness is brought to light here when he is happy that he had gained the company of porphyria by killing her.

Towards the end, the poet eases to stillness after murder when he ironically presents the speaker to be happy that he had gained her love forever, sitting all night together without having any problems between them. The speaker, thus, eases the whole situation by admitting that he had broken God”s commandment, �Do not kill� but still, God has not punished him. This marks to heighten the speaker”s madness too.
