Ali works as director of production for potato chips brand “Sun”. In recent acute shortage of potato cultivation led to a rise in price significantly, so the profit margins for “sun” landed widely, causing a crisis for the company it had to make a decision in this regard. To resolve this crisis Ali began seriously considering an increase in product price, but the problem is that the consumers in the snacks sector are sensitive to price, meaning any increase in the prices of potato chips will lower the company’s sales.

Ali colleague in the company Rami suggested him to get out of this crisis by reducing the amount of potatoes slightly in each bag while maintaining the current price. For example, 200 grams was reduced to 180 grams. Rami built his advice on the basis that: most of the customers does not scan the bag weight and therefore would not be detected this change by consumers. In addition, this practice is illegal because it will be overwritten on each bag that contains 180 grams. In this way the company will be able to maintain product quality and achieve profit as well as to maintain the jobs of hundreds of workers.
