Proposal Peer Review

We are looking at these concerns in this order of hierarchy, which means you should address the first
concerns first and you may not need to address the later concerns at all if the first concerns are going to
prompt some rewriting. Topic. Did the student match the assignment?
1. Line Editing.
A. Organization. Is the piece organized according to the assignment and is all the information
in the correct sections?
B. Content. Does the writing in each section make sense? Is it easy to follow? Are there any
redundancies that should be eliminated?
C. Tone: Is the tone appropriate for this style of writing in this writing community?
D. Language: Are there words or phrases that are overused? Are there words or phrases that
could clarify the piece as a whole or in each sentence?
2. Copy Editing.
A. Syntax. Do the sentences have consistent tense, person usage, clarity, parallelism when
appropriate, complexity, etc.?
B. Spelling. Is the spelling correct?
C. Punctuation. Is there consistency in the use of capitalization, numerals, hyphenations, etc.?
3. Design.
A. Fonts. Are each of the fonts consistent within headings, subheadings, and the body? Are
bold and italic used appropriately?
B. Graphics. Is there appropriate use of bulleted lists, number lists, tables, and/or graphs?
C. Spacing. Is the amount of white space appropriate for the piece and for clarity?
D. View. Does the overall look of the piece give you an idea of what the piece is about upon a
glance? Can you find sections quickly without reading excessive text?

You should be addressing one or two of these concerns in each paper you review. For example, if
Jonny’s topic doesn’t match, you’ll be giving him suggestions on how to make it match and doing some
general line editing for him to explain how to do the assignment correctly. If Jake’s topic matches and
the line editing passed the test, you’ll be doing some copy editing and design suggestions for him.
